The guys from Van Nifterik Jeroen Dunant, Johan van Eckeveld and Rene Ratterman showed their newest concept. With this new concept they want to give customers added value to their product by decorating it with dried flowers.

Gé Bentvelzen from ABZ Seeds with his SummerBreeze Snow. This product also won the best novelty award at the IPM in the patio-plants category.

Among others, the Floricultura booth was manned by Marc Eijsackers, Niels Kuijper and Elisa Morrazo González.

At Ubink a wide range of cacti was exhibited by Wim and Gert.

On the stand of Koen Pack the new waterproof cardboard bucket was presented. The bucket is patented and consists of 50% recycled and 50% FSC certified cardboard.

In the booth of Deliflor the Santini Pizarro hit the spotlight. The variety was introduced and marketed by Zentoo at the end of 2019. Vincent Madern showed the new variety.

The guys from Royal van Zanten Jan de Boer, Jeroen Meeder, Don Schilder, Leon de Mooij and Nico Laan brought their Multiflora Milkshake series to the attention of the fair's visitors. The plant has many flowers with hard colours, gradual flower opening and a good vase life.

Harm Custers of Takii Europe with a pre-commercial novelty called Panther. It is a kind of crossing between two kinds of digitalis. The plant has great vigour which translates into a lot of flowering shoots. It flowers from May until frost and does not need a cold to bloom.

At the stand of Straathof Youngplants and Greneth Plants, Hans Straathof is busy talking to a client.

Sirekit Mol from Beekenkamp Plants was also present at the fair again. Everyone who came to take a look at the stand was of course guided along the Dahlias.

The team of Proven Winners Europe. Proven Winners comes from the US and 15 years ago, they started up Proven Winners in Europe. Proven Winners has nurseries all over the world and work with breeders from all over the world. They trial and select the best ones - with the demands of the end consumer as main focus.

Matthias Meilland of Meilland holding Zepeti, a variety that they introduced last year at the FlowerTrials 2019. In 2020 for Spring, 250,000 will come out for Europe.

Manfred Robert of Liriope Factory. This US company, exhibiting at the SUSTA booth, supplies rooted cuttings of liriope and supplies them mainly to the US and Europe. For liriope, the European market continues to increase.

Matthias Rohde of Begonien Rieger presenting their begonia varieties, including their new varieties like Chicago - a new red variety that is a good outdoor and heat tolerant variety that flowers early.

Frank de Greef of Fleurizon presenting Indoor Plant Combos. This is a new line of indoor plant combinations. "It has multiple plants per pot so these root very quickly for quick and easy turn-around."

Alexander Kientzler of Kientzler presenting Fruhlingsflirs and the award it won at the Novelty awards. It is a vegetative white flowering with pink eye plant. This year during the FlowerTrials, this German breeder and propagator will be presenting its novelties in the Netherlands at FN Kempen in Mijdrecht instead of Germany.

Andreas Pellens of Pellens Hortensien presenting their hydrangeas in their new 100% recyclable and 100% post consumer recycled material (from Pöppelmann).

The new label of Pellens Hortensien with the recycling logo largely displayed. Also on the label, they explain that they have reduced their use of pesticides in production by 80% and that they installed solar panels. The label is a 100% cellulose label that can be thrown into the paper bin.

Garry Grueber and Aline Andreas of Cultivaris presenting their highlight varieties; ULU, Runaway Bride, and Summer Love. In these varieties, they continue growing in quantities.

Denise van Kampen of PanAmerican Seed presenting the Beacon Impatiens varieties in a huge basket. Beacon is known for its resistance against downy mildew. The already showed the variety at the California Spring Trials and the FlowerTrials in 2019, but are now officially launching the variety.

The Sunset Shadow - a new Osteospermum Akila variety of PanAmerican Seed. According to van Kampen, there are no osteos with these color combinations.

Of course, there were more varieties on display at PanAmerican Seed, like Salvia Salvatore and Leucanthemum Madonna, a Fleuroselect winner.

The team of Danziger with Mr. Plant Geek. At the booth of Danziger Scoop is the highlight. Besides the scabiosa Scoop, danziger now also named a petunia series Scoop. At the AIPH Grower of The Year Award, Danziger Guatemala won the bronze award in the category Young Plants.

In the cut flower chrysanthemum assortment of Brandkamo is Manila Pink (upper right) a new variety. It is a filled flower with a green heart. According to Brandkamp's Jürgen von den Driesch, filled flowers with a green or dark heart (like Adana Orange on the left) are doing very will in the chrysanthemum cut flower assortment.

Olivier Morel of Morel Diffusion presenting the Metalis series. Last year, this French cyclamen breeding company celebrated their 100th anniversary. This year, they created a database with pictures so that growers and retailers can choose what variety they want.

Sandra Villette and Julien Perreve-Genet of Fertil presenting the new Fertil Pot.

Fertil designed a new shape of the Fertil Pot, a pot that is always made out of wood without any additives. For the wood, trees closed to the factory are used that supposed to be cut to thinning the forest. "This new shape improves the ability to destack pots easier with a machine."

Milena Weller of Selecta One presenting one of their new poinsettia varieties SkyStar. According to Weller, it is not just another color variety, it extends the assortment into a new direction. "It has dark green foliage and red bracts that are covered in white dots, like the flares of a spotlight. On top of that, the thick, robust, dark red, V-shaped stems and the good root system involves excellent characteristics", she says. Rely Jaldety of Jaldety talking with a visitor. At the California Spring Trials in March, they will present several novelties and even more at the FlowerTrials in June 2020.

Alexandro Bock and Monserrat Josa of Diem Hibiscus. This Italian hibiscus breeder just introduced two new lines - a big flowered line called D-Magnus and a small flowered line D-mini. Several varieties are being trialed and the final varieties that will create the assortment will be presented in April.

The team of Desch Plantpak. Kees Waque (on the left) is holding the new Color Your Story autumn/winter 2020-2021 magazine which they promoted at the show on top of their broad assortment of pots, trays and containers which keeps on growing. Many of the lines are expanded with new colors.

At Dümmen Orange, a lot of meetings are taking place also at their booth, they presented their assortment of pot plants, annuals, perennials, cut flowers, tropical plants and flower bulbs. In comparison to last year, the lay out of the booth changed a bit. "It changed from a wide product range presentation towards showing product highlights in inspirational settings. The booth received a complete makeover to inspire with megatrends and focus on the most important products."

The team of Veiling Rhein Maas presenting their web shop that they launched in the first week of January 2020. "With the introduction of the Webshop, Veiling Rhein-Maas is responding to the wishes of customers and suppliers for a further digitalized marketplace." The Webshop offers an even wider range of products, generating additional purchasing and sales opportunities for our customers and suppliers alike.

The Jurassic Park theme of Landgard that was launched last year was still attracting the attention this year.

The booth of Roses Forever was not in the 'Danish Hall' (hall 6) this year. They promoted their large variety of pot roses in hall 1 this year.

Nitzan and Asaf Nir of Nir Nursery presenting their Jupiter wax line. Jupiter wax is now a commercially protected name and the series is available in white, pink and purple and in pot and cut flowers.

Erick Ciraud of DHMI presenting the new Quartz Pink and Yellow dipladenia that will be available in 2021. According to Ciraud, the color combination of the flower is unique, with the large yellow throat and dark pink color. Also, the flower shape looks like a sanderi type, even though it is a hybrid now.

Erwin Verbraeken of Bachmann promoting the fact that their tray are 100% recyclable and 100% recycled. "Our trays always had these characteristics, but as it is such a hot topic, we show also at the show."

Dimitris Dimitrou of Fleurizon presenting one of their calla varieties, a crop they recently started to supply.

Cassy Bright of Plant Patent Agent. Since 1996 she has been working with breeders to coordinate their intellectual property needs.

Selecta one again this year brought their cut flowers varieties and for the first time at the IPM Essen, they are presenting their expanded carnation assortment.

Anthony Tesselaar of Camellia Volunteer. A winter hardy variety and according to Anthony, people say that it is the best known camelia in the world.

Rino Caccia, Paolo Gazzola, and Mario Rigatti of Padana in front of their new stand. This Italian company specialises in the production of young plants from seed and cuttings of a wide range of ornamental pot and bedding plants as well as vegetable plants. Moreover, the company runs its own breeding activities in Primula (Primabella) and Viola and is the exclusive distributor of Lavandula Lavinia (Plantinova) and Argyranthemum Grandaisy (MNP Flowers) for Italy.

The dipladenia cuttings of Gruppo Padana. "We are strong in dipladenia cuttings. As they have a long cultivation period, they are well rooted so when a grower produce them, they will get a final product in a shorter time."

Maya Andersen of Dymak. This Danish pot suppliers sources products from all over the world and in the shelf behind Andersen, they were presenting all their sustainable pots, like pots made out of bamboo from Vietnam, pots made out of straws from China, paper bags, recycled rubber out of Vietnam, recycled glass out of India and much more.

The Magical hydrangea is for Hortensias France Production one of the products that is getting an increasingly larger foothold in the company - one out of the three production locations is completely dedicated to this variety. Magical hydrangea varieties are characterized by their 150 day flowering period.

Rasmus Moth of BioSund; a new company of Rosa Danica. It has been established recently and utilizes a part of the Rosa Danica greenhouse to grow Biological vegetables and herbs. "They are 100% sustainable". In 2018, they conducted tests with an online supermarket in Denmark and the reactions were so positive that orders have been four folded since then.

Besides, also for the first time, they now have an exclusive series of tulbaghias that come from South Africa. He has five exclusive varieties for the European market.

It was requested from a customer out of the US and they show it at the IPM Essen to see if there is any more interest for this product.

The machine binds the bunch and directly adds the flower food sachet to the bunch. The bunch still needs to be sleeved manually, but they are also working on a machine for that.

The IPM Discovery Center is the 'hotspot for specialist retailers'. In this area, the focus was on new findings and fresh ideas for the successful marketing of horticultural products and services. The POS Discovery Center was relocated to Hall 7 of the modernized Messe Essen venue. Creative director Romeo Sommers (in the gray suit in the picture talking to visitors) and his team provided a platform for the “heroes” of the industry.

The team of FlowersExpo, which will be held from September 8-10 in Moscow, Russia, together with the men from Sadka Plant from Russia were visiting the show.

Thomas Büter of Floragard. At this year's show, they focused on showing the different kind of substrate recipes they have Showing them all was not possible, as they have about 4,000 different recopies. The emphasis is on the use of less peat in the substrate mixes as by 2030, the use of peat needs to be reduced significantly for the professional growers. So every year, the use of peat should go down step by step. For this reason, Floragard offers mixes in which growers can choose the percentage of peat in it.

For the production of calluna, for example, Floragard has a mix completely without peat. In other mixes, growers can choose from 50 or 70 percent peat.

"The consumer wants to see the flowers and with glassine paper on the top, the consumer can still see the flower and no plastic is used. So far, they received positive reactions, and they will now test how it will work in practice. Amende has high expectations particularly when used to sleeve mono bunches.

Gustavo Montejo and Tom Biondo of Royal Flowers, an Ecuadorian farm that is the only farm in the country that uses micro irrigation system throughout their 100ha farm. Last year, they and Dümmen Orange signed an agreement for exclusive rooting of Dümmen Orange phalaenopsis products for the European market at the Bremkens production facility in Germany.
